Become an expert on your spouse. What are her deepest fears, needs, desires, and so on?
Some areas we can strive to become an expert in our marriage include the following:
1. Communication
2. Conflict resolution
3. Ourselves
4. Our spouses
5. Forgiveness
6. Asking for forgiveness
7. Humility
There aren't any medals given out for going the distance in marriage. However, that does not mean that striving for a long, healthy, happy marriage isn't worth the effort.
We can measure our success by the relationships we have with our spouse, our children, and our grandchildren as we cross the finish line of life.
RECOMMENDED BLOGS:
Encourage Your Spouse - a blog by Lori Ferguson to encourage husbands and wives to lead meaningful lives. I enjoy getting tips for date night from this site and seeing how the Fergusons have thrived in their three decades of marriage.
Fierce Marriage - Ryan and Selena have been married for 11 years. They're like us, but with a blog that is much more dedicated to marriage than mine, and my friends know me as "The Family Guy!"
Simple Marriage, Costs for a date - This blog post was written by Corey, a dude with a Ph.D. in Family Therapy. His writing is down-to-Earth for me.
RECOMMENDED BOOKS/MOVIE:
How to Win Friends and Influence People (it's not just for business) - Surprisingly, this book has done more for my marriage than it has for my business life.
Love and Respect - I haven't been to a conference by Dr. Eggerichs, but I read the book. This is a must-have bathroom read for guys!
Fireproof (Blu-Ray) - It's Kirk Cameron trying to save his marriage like he saves people from a burning house. Seriously, guys, we really should work on our marriages BEFORE our wives tell us they want to leave us.
Weekend to Remember Marriage Getaway. Olivia and I have attended many of these to refresh and recharge our marriage. Use Group Name "Corpus Christi" and get a great group rate on your weekend getaway.
