This is my personal blog about living life intentionally in the areas of faith, family, fitness, finances, and furthering professional growth. I really wanted that alliteration to happen.  I do talk mostly about marriage and fatherhood though.

It was in 2003 while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 3rd Infantry Division, that I realized life is too short for us to saunter through it without a plan. Although it took bullets flying by me to come to that realization, I hope that sharing my journey with you will help you create the life you want for yourself...without the bullets flying by you, of course.

Each one of us has an opportunity to leave a legacy that changes the world for the better.

You can subscribe to this blog by email (see home page) or RSS. Of course, I am open to a limited amount of advertising, but only to what is relevant to the theme of this blog.

My Biography

My life has taken me around the world and back again. Born and raised an Army BRAT, I never lived anywhere for more than three years until I moved to Marina, California where my dad retired from the U.S. Army. It was no surprise to me when I enlisted in the Army myself in 1999 as a combat medic wanting to see the world before I settled for a job like the rest of my friends.

During my time in the Army, I was stationed in Germany from 1999 to 2001. I was on a joint training exercise in Hungary when 9/11 happened. While stationed at Fort Benning with 1/10 Field Artillery, it was decided that I should experience what a stop loss felt like and soon found myself involved in the invasion of a foreign nation. For all the sarcasm I put into my writing, I cannot tell when someone is using it on me. Irony.

Second only to God, my family is my life. Having seen my parents experience a total of three marriages and divorces by the time I was 22 years old, and also seeing the examples set by couples who have been happily married 'til death, I understand the effort it takes to have a sustaining marriage. So, I am pleased to say that I have found and married my best friend, Olivia. There's no doubt that God brought us together. We met in Dexheim, Germany of all places, where it would be impossible for us to not notice each other.

I worked for four years as a Community Educator for Women’s Shelter of South Texas engaging audiences about the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and bullying. My educational background includes a Master of Science in Educational Technology from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry-Biology from University of the Pacific. My professional background is showcased at on another blog called EdTechJerry.
